Origin: West coast of US and Canada

Appearance: Light pink to pale reddish-brown.

Characteristics: Hard, tough, and unusually brittle when dried. Difficult to work but takes stain and finishes well. Figured or burled veneer used in marquetry and decorative woodworking.
